Flying games have their own equivalent - the afterburner in a jet engine, where fuel is injected into the exhaust to give a massive boost of power and to make some serious noise (it's also an excellent way of showing off if you've got a jet dragster or the Batmobile). Note that this type of Power-Up is mostly associated with, but not exclusively used in, driving games. Some more recent games give a supply of boost that can be used on demand, rather than discrete "charges" of boost. In many of these cases, the speed boost cannot be shut off once started, and is usually limited to a brief burst of acceleration.
